This was read at Shayla's Funeral from her Uncle Keith

Shayla AnnMarie Lenoir was born February 21, 2000 and God called her from those who loved her February 10, 2001. Shayla's short life on here on earth will be remembered always by those of us who love her. Shayla's electric smile was contagious to everyone around her. Her smile brought forth warmth and a peaceful innocence, only a child can radiate. Like a beautiful flower, Shayla's beautiful eyes defined her delicate features into a work of beauty. She was my Pretty Flower. I would call to her: "Hey good looking little baby, you're my pretty flower." I will always remember how she made me laugh when she would walk backwards and act like she was so "cool". She would giggle and point to the things she wanted or needed you to see. There was tenderness within her point that would melt your heart away. Shayla would laugh when she or someone else would sneeze, Through this, Grandma Rita taught her how to blow her nose. In her 11 1/2 months here on earth, Shayla touched many lives. We were blessed to have been given this beautiful child even though it was not for as long as we would have liked. Shayla was also blessed, she was given the best mother a child could hope for. She was loved, protected, and embraced in the arms of Annie and John. We will never understand why God calls little children away, leaving behind the pain, emptiness, and longing for what once was. Shayla will always be remembered and loved. her soul has been set free to explore a much happier, peaceful place. She was angel on earth and now she in an Angel in heaven, looking down and smiling like a Pretty Flower.

Shayla AnnMarie Lenoir Beautiful Angel

Shayla was born on February 21, 2000 in Minot North Dakota. She was perfect, she was already my Angel, she was actually my hero. She saved me from so much in my life. We lived her short time with her daddy, and then in her last 3 months we lived with her great grand mother, who loved her so much. Everytime her great grandma saw her, her eyes would light up and as did Shayla's. She also had a very special grandma Karen who babysat while mommy&daddy went to work. She would cry when she had to leave her grandma Karen, she truly loved her grandma Karen, who would spoil my Shayla. Shayla died suddenly it was a shock, and still it feels like a bad dream, I wish it were a bad dream. Shayla was almost a year old she died 2 weeks from her 1st birthday. This year it was another Christmas without her and I just wasn't happy, the years seem to be getting harder as time goes on. Well my baby I know your in a far better place then we are. I love you my PRETTY FLOWER...LOve always ur mommy

You Always Put A Smile On Our Faces
Remembering you is my favorite time of the day. You always had your little ways of making us all laugh. Everyday you amazed me with what you learned and how fast you caught on to things. Watching you grow even for the short time I was given with you was just amazing. The look you would give when you were curious. All your face expressions were soooo loving and cute and sooo precious.

Shayla's Heritage
Your people are members of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Natives, located 15 miles south of the canadian border. Our legend of Turtle Island, our indiginous creation myth.

In an ancient time before there were Humans on Earth, a man in Heaven uprooted a great tree. His wife looked into the hole this made, and saw stars glittering and sparkling in darkness. Curious, she leaned over the hole too far—and fell into the hole. Down and down and down she fell out of Heaven among the stars.
Far below, winged creatures swimming in Ocean looked up and saw this Star Woman falling from Heaven. They flew up together, caught her on their backs, brought her gently down, and set on Great Turtle's back, who was swimming in the Ocean.
Then, one by one, various creatures dove under the Ocean to bring up mud to make a home for this Star Woman. None succeeded, until Muskrat was able to bring mud up, which was used to coat Turtle's back. As Sky Woman slept, the soil on Turtle's back grew larger, streams appeared and trees, shrubs, grasses, and other plants grew up from the soil.
Thus, this land we live on is Turtle Island, and the indigenous world rides on the back of Great Turtle.
Soon Sky Woman gave birth to a female child—First Woman. Sky Woman raised this child on their Earth home. When her child was grown to full womanhood, Sky Woman returned to the sky to become Grandmother Moon. From there she watches over her children.
In due time, First Woman was impregnated by the West Wind, and she gave birth to twin brothers. These two brothers—called Maple Sapling and Flint Boy by the Haudenosaunee of the Finger Lakes—then named all the living things of the Earth.
Encoded in this simple myth are key elements and profound insights of the indigenous world view, and the weaving occurs on several levels.
Starlight was implanted on Earth. Turtle provided a body to house this heavenly consciousness. Hueman consciousness came from this Sky Woman on Turtle's back. We are, indeed, stardust.
The first human was a woman, unlike the Old World myth of Adam, where the first hueman is a man. This gender distinction runs deep between the two continents and their hueman cultures.
Sky Woman became Grandmother Moon. Thus, there are 13 moons in a year (13 x 28 = 364), and there are 13 large scales on every turtle's back. New World time is measured in 13; the ancient Mayan calendar grid is 13 wide. 13 is 12+1, as with Christ and his Apostles. 13 is Transformation, as in transcend—death and rebirth—and Ascension.
* Sky Woman is a 5-point star. Five is space.
* In geometry, this is dodeca-hedral and icosa-hedral crystal.
* In geology, this is Earth's magnetic grid.
* In architecture, this is a cat-hedral—sacred enclosure for Our Lady.
* In biology this is the egg/seed—the vessel to contain DNA's 5-step ratcheted twin spiral helix braid of memory.
* On Turtle Island, the Finger Lakes—gateway to the five Great Lakes—are the Land of Phi where serpent and egg uncoil.
* And Onondaga—the Salt Lake—is Jerusalem in the New World.
